Art, Nature, Storytelling

Visual artist Sam Gare

“North Harris Studio will be a space dedicated to the cross over between art and science, with the aim of sharing the narratives of Scotland's unique Natural Heritage, and the stories of those who call it home.”

— Sam Gare

The Story…

I am relocating my life and practice to the Isle of Harris, after 10 years of it becoming my second home, and over 17 years of living in London. Currently a landscape artist exploring our connection to the land I am now activity developing my practice so that my work with the natural world meaningfully contributes to personal and public learning, and citizen science.

I’ve gained significant inspiration from naturalists, their collecting and recording methodologies and how a modern public still learns from specimens, archives, and artwork. I have a strong desire to educate myself and share with others the important features and environmental changes around me at my developing practice in Scotland. I aspire for all my projects to be participatory, facilitate learning in the field, to collaborate with science, to explore local culture and knowledge and share the wonders and challenges facing local fauna and flora.
